Your comment about the huge number of communication signals shibas give is right on... I've noticed the same. Even in comparison to my akita (which so many people claim are similar to the shiba, but in my experience isn't so), my shiba communicates far more. As I was telling someone recently... everything means something to my shiba... from who is walking ever so slightly in front or to a split-second glance means something to him.
