Our first guest author is one of Snick’s most favorite people… his girl, Jaqi.

Jaqi is a not-so-typical high school student adjusting to life in central Indiana after having spent most of her life in New York City. She’s lived in several states, has friends in diverse walks of life, and has traveled internationally, all of which gives her a unique perspective for someone her age.

For most of her life, Jaqi wanted a puppy. When she was nine, we moved into an apartment where we were allowed to have a dog. Her grandmother gave her a copy of Dogalog by Bruce Fogle, a guide to a variety of dog breeds, and the search was on. After months of researching breeds, searching for a breeder, and waiting for a puppy, Snickers came into Jaqi’s life… and turned it completely upside down. The ups and downs that followed were educational for all of us and a few years later, we adopted a sweet, rescued Shiba girl named Secret.

Jaqi will be writing about what she has learned from Snickers and Secret. We hope this will be a resource for kids (and their parents) when they are preparing to add a dog to their family.
