Snick and I had a great time organizing and attending the Canine Cocktail Pawty to benefit Hike for Heroes in NYC on June 14. I’m happy to report that we made a $1,745 donation to Wish Upon A Hero to benefit military families in financial crisis. Additionally, instead of spending a large portion of ticket sales and donations on an event space (some of the animal friendly event spaces in NYC are several thousand dollars for an evening), we made a $500 donation to another worthy charity – Animal Haven [click to continue reading...]

Aimed at helping the public understand the differences between breeds directly from breed experts, the Meet the Breeds event is the world’s largest showcase of dogs and cats with 160 dog breeds and 41 [click to continue reading...]

Snickers and I spent last weekend at Fido’s Festival in Woodstown, NJ. We were there with NYC Shiba Rescue to talk to people about Shiba Inus, Shiba rescue in particular, purebred rescue in general and responsible dog ownership. I really enjoy working at these events. Not only do I get to talk to people about the breed that I absolutely adore and about purebred rescue groups and how important adoption is, we also get to try new things and meet new people. We’ve made friends with rescue groups, vendors and [click to continue reading...]

I have joked for a long time that Snickers is the Shiba Ambassador to NYC because so many people stop me on the street to find out what kind of dog he is. I have talked to people from all over the world about Shiba Inus. Snick took his ambassadorial duties to the next level a couple weeks ago by deigning to be fawned over by hundreds of people at the AKC’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day in Madison Square Park. He was an incredibly good and patient boy and I [click to continue reading...]

I’m telling you, Shibas know how to party and it involves a lot of running and a lot of eating. Canine Cocktail Pawty #2 had both and was therefore a big hit. The running is a given when you put a bunch of doggies together in the huge event space at Animal Haven and the doggie eats were DIVINE (according to the masses of dogs surrounding the table anyway) and were provided – as was this photo – by Culinary Crossing. Stay tuned. Pawty #3 is already in the works [click to continue reading...]

Yes, I am certifiably insane. People ask me sometimes how I deal with the whole single mom with two dogs and two jobs thing all whilst living in midtown Manhattan. I usually shrug and go “eh, it’s not so bad,” meanwhile knowing it probably isn’t normal that I (1) almost never sleep more than 6 hours a night, (2) haven’t had time to sit down and read a book in several years, and (3) only take vacation time from my real job when I need to do something for Miss [click to continue reading...]

The NYC Shiba Inus are throwing a party! A fund raiser to be exact. Shibas may be a stubborn bunch, but they’re generous to their friends and our Shibas have decided to raise money for one of their favorite places… Animal Haven. Let’s help Animal Haven raise the money they need to finish their Soho facility! There will be catered food, drinks (ever had A Screaming Shiba?) and gourmet dog treats. Well-behaved dogs attend for free. Well-behaved people are $40/person. (Bad dogs and bad people should stay home.) Tickets must [click to continue reading...]
