Secret’s “Gotcha Day” is coming up soon. On October 1st, she will have been with us for five years. Her coloring has lightened and her features are softer, but the big change is that her worried look is gone. [click to continue reading...]

Today has been a good day for dogs and a lazy day for me. Friday, I spent time figuring out what I do, why I do it, and what I really should focus on. Yesterday, I ran errands and did chores – a typical Saturday. Normally, on Sunday, I would work… work on rescue stuff, work on NSCA stuff, take Snick for his shelter visit, answer email, do some web development or updates for clients or one of my clubs/charities, etc. NOT TODAY! I started the day with good intentions, [click to continue reading...]

Back home, playing in the snow meant bundling up; leashing up the dogs; tromping down four flights of stairs; and navigating slick, SALTED sidewalks (unless it was a blizzardy and then we could walk in the street) until we found a good spot to play. If we got to the dog run in time, we could play off leash. If the dog run snow was already “played out” we’d have to find another spot and that usually meant playing with leashes on. NOT TODAY! My city dog Snickers, his sister [click to continue reading...]

At 3:00 AM this morning I put fabulously fresh sheets on my bed. I _love_ fresh sheets. This act is only noteworthy because I had to do it around Snickers. He’d already "gone to bed" in the pile of clean sheets I’d left there after I did laundry. He didn’t want to get off the bed, so I shooed him from side-to-side as I put on the sheets. Then I just wrapped the comforter around him as I covered the rest of the bed. At 7:10 AM every week day, [click to continue reading...]

So… I’ve had a couple people email and IM me asking about Secret in the past few days and it made me realize just how little I blog lately. An aside to Janet in NC, owned by Teddy: I didn’t respond to your IMs because I was offline and didn’t receive them until several hours after you left them. The Divine Miss ~T~ has gone to live with her father for a year and she took little Seeky with her. They spent the summer with my folks, as usual, and [click to continue reading...]

Secret has really adjusted a LOT since I posted her first update. She’s so much more confident walking in the city now and she’s much less skittish when people reach to pet her. She seems like a different girl from the one that came to live with us a few months ago. She’s definitely gained some confidence. When she first arrived, she would stare at us with this look that said "what’s going on?" and we felt like she was unsettled and concerned. Now, the look we get is more [click to continue reading...]

I wrote a long email to Shiba-L tonight about Secret and then realized “duh, blog post” so here ya go (edited a bit to make more sense to the blog audience)! Secret (6 years old) came to live with us seven weeks ago. She lived in a backyard in the country most of her life. The city has been a BIG change for her. My daughter and I have a pretty tight schedule, so the best we could do was throw Secret into the mix and hope she could adjust. [click to continue reading...]

Some of them are a bit fuzzy because we were mostly avoiding using the flash. We figure she’d been through enough yesterday without getting flashed in the face too! Click to embiggen* *I’ve totally stolen the word embiggen from Lachlan and plan to use it every chance I get. [click to continue reading...]

Snickers knew something was up when we left the apartment. He could smell Secret’s kennel in the hallway. He walked so nice with me to Bryant Park, looking up at me at every intersection to make sure I saw how good he was being. When we got to the park, I spotted ~T~ and pointed her out to Snick who made a FAST BEELINE for her across the park. He was most concerned with giving her kisses, but then he wanted to check out Secret. Secret was still a little [click to continue reading...]

What a day! When I woke up this morning it was raining. What could be worse on a day that I needed to introduce two water-hating Shibas to each other on neutral territory?!?! Snick and I didn’t even go out until about 11:30, but luckily the sun came out shortly after we went out. I told ~T~ to “wish really hard and maybe we’ll have a sunny afternoon for the dogs.” Secret’s flight was supposed to land at 1:50, so we left home at 12:40 to catch the 12:50 NY [click to continue reading...]

We will be picking Secret up at the airport this Sunday at 2:00 PM. Hee hee!!! I’m not ready. Her leash and collar are here though and she’s coming with an initial supply of food. ~T~ and I have a plan for introducing her to Snick before bringing her into the apartment and T has Monday off from school. We’ve got our daily walking and feeding schedule worked out and Secret may start her first Obedience class in mid-October. But I’m not ready. Eek! [click to continue reading...]

Snickers doesn’t know yet. ~T~ and I have a secret… actually, we’re getting a Secret. A dog named Secret! She is a six year old, red Shiba Inu. She been living temporarily, as a foster dog, with the breeder that owns and shows Snick’s brother in North Carolina since January of this year. She needs a forever home and we’re it. We haven’t set a ship date yet. (More on that later.) In the meantime, here are two pictures of our soon to be family addition! This is Secret! Secret [click to continue reading...]
