Ms. Brandywine: Day Nine

Brandy went to the groomer on Tuesday. They brushed out all the loose undercoat, clipped her nails, gave her a bath, cut out the mats and trimmed her little butt feathers. She came back looking like a different dog. Here are a couple photos of her that night, while she was still wearing the little bandanna they put on her.

She’s easily walking three times as far on walks now as she was when she got here and she’s eating like a champ. Her little hunched back is straightening out and tonight she playbowed at me and then at Snickers right after I got home from work!!!

We’re starting to think her reported age of 16 may have been a lie on the part of the woman who brought to the shelter… maybe to help justify her request to have her euthanized? We’ll see. I want to give her a couple more weeks of good food and exercise before taking her to the vet.

Oh, she’s looking so much better and so much happier! Hope she keeps making such good progress under your care.

FYI, the Misanthropic Shiba blog just posted a blog entry about adopting older Shibas.

I wondered about her age, too. Clearly, poor/neglectful care can lead to a dog looking/acting much older than it is.

She looks lovely! I’m glad she’s prospering so much and so fast!

She’s looking so much better in such a short period of time — even her eyes look much brighter!

Thanks everyone! I’m starting to think she’s more like 12 or 13 instead of 16. I suppose that could be wishful thinking though; I’m not sure. Her posture is definitely improving and she’s moving faster – confidence, exercise, diet, better muscle tone – probably all of the above. And, YES, her eyes do indeed seem brighter. They were a little cloudy when we picked her up at the shelter, but it’s barely noticeable now!

    Jenna,
She looks beautiful. Her eyes are so expressive, and that is just a photo. She must melt you when she looks at you live. All the best with her!

She looks beautiful. How are her eyes? Does she have cloudiness at all? They look nice and dark. Her stance in the back seems maybe somewhat arthritic but she could have muscle tone loss– which is very common in old dogs. Who knows, she could very well be that old. I’ve had a few dogs live long lives. There have been a few very old shibas. Maybe she has those good genes!! I hope for everyone ‘s sake that she does, because she seems SO happy, and from the little bits I’ve been hearing, it sounds like the whole family is happy too 🙂 Great work!!

as she gets better she turns into more and more of a little trouble maker.. our little angel is not as innocent as we thought. lol but still VERY worth it. 🙂

Seriously handsome pup, regardless of age. My favorite thing about dogs is the resiliency they show when given a chance. I hope she continues to improve and lives many happy years.

That is some incredible improvement. You and Snickers are the best things that could have ever happened for her. She’s lovely and looking as if she’s blossoming under your care. 🙂
