Snickers and I have our first NYCSR foster dog! Shayna was surrendered by her owner because she didn’t like sharing her home with puppies. (Her owner had other dogs that had puppies recently.) Shayna was apparently very unhappy and needed a place to live where she felt more comfortable. She’s definitely comfortable living with me! 🙂
And, as my friend Judith said when she met her yesterday… “She’s certainly Shayna!” (Shayna means beautiful in Yiddish and she is, indeed, quite beautiful.)
Aww… she looks very happy and comfy there.
How’re she and Snick doing? Has she decided that it’s okay to play (or at least to let him play with you)?
She’s getting the message a little bit, but she still tries to get between me & Snick. They’ve had a couple fights – one of which he won and one of which I had to break up because she wasn’t backing down and I was afraid he might hurt her. Once they have a couple more, she’ll probably be better. Little things like feeding him first, petting him first, not letting her on my bed with us… should hopefully add up to her understanding he’s my Top Pup. She LOVES to play with toys, so when she’s really good I give her extra play time. 🙂
That’s cool… sounds like she’s settling in!
Yikes about having to break up the one fight, though. Hopefully they’ll get over that pretty quickly!
Yay! I’m glad Snicks has a playmate… I think we talked about this when Secret left, how maybe fostering would help him be less lonely and that he would adjust to changes better. I think it is harder for female dogs to adjust, they don’t call ’em “bitches” for nothing :>
She’s gorgeous! I get so freaked out when dogs fight!
