I was crating Shayna at night and whenever I wasn’t home until she and Snick got to know each other better (and stopped fighting). Friday night, I let her sleep outside the crate for the first time. After I went to bed, Snick joined me as usual and a few minutes later Shayna hopped up on the bed too. I thought Snick might chase her off, but he didn’t. She’s done well… she stays on the opposite side of the bed from Snick and he doesn’t seem to mind. I had to go out a couple times without them today so I left them alone in the apartment with her out of her crate and that went well too. So, tomorrow, I’ll leave her out all day when I go to work. I think they’re fine. I took her bed out of her crate and put it by Snick’s (because she was stealing his bed when she wasn’t crated), so now they’re happily curled up side-by-side in their beds!

Hi Jenna,
I noticed your blog on the internet by chance some time ago and from time to time I come back.
I’m a big Shiba fan (from Holland!) and it’s great to see what those NY doggies (and people ;)) are up to.
We are getting a Shiba pup in 4 weeks, if you want to see some pictures of the pups (it’s not definite which one we will get yet) you can visit our weblog: chinochika.punt.nl
The text is in dutch :-s
Ciao, Marianna

the picture!!! Awwwwww….. this is why i love shibas! Nothing cuter than one curled up like that.. Scout will even tolerate his little brother, the tibetan spaniel, sleeping back to back next to him.

just discovered your blog…we got our first shiba 2 1/2 months ago…he is just 5 mo. We lost a beloved german shephard and I couldn’t go home to an empty apt. (my husband is quite ill) and she was very specail to us. I did something I said I would NEVER do, and that was purchase anything from Scamps, a local pet store. But I couldn’t walk away from this little shiba…he is already our joy and a wonderful companion…as long as the gate is closed tight…he can run far and fast…we live in a senior complex of 11 acres, but twice now he has almost made it out the main gates…My husband is already talking about another one…
but we cannot crate him…from day one he has totaly freaked out, screaming horribly…the only other thing he screams about is putting flea stuff on the back of the kneck…I think they hurt him putting in the chip (pet shop did it before I got him).
these are wonderful dogs, but not for everyone.

I am SOOOO loving having two of them in the apartment. They play and nuzzle and hang out together.
I just wish there were two of me when it is time to walk them. Snick and I are missing are “adventure walks” late at night where he’s in charge of where we go and what we do. Shayna won’t pee/poop on the sidewalk so we have to go to the dog run every time we go out. They have different paces and want to stop and check out different things… it’s basically just a lot of work to walk them both.
If I had time to give them separate walks and the attention and affection that they each need, I would keep her, because they get along at home so well together.
