Shibas are such regal little dogs and they usually have nice, exotic sounding names. One of Snick’s Shiba friends is named Toshi and another is named Kaleo. People (well, adults at least) look at me a little sideways when they ask his name and I tell them "Snickers."
But what can I do? T and a committee of her friends picked his name. I suppose I had veto power, but who can veto the name a 10 year old picks for her first puppy?!?
His registered name is actually Kawakirei BNT Sweet ‘N Nutty. Of course, I’m not really sure if that’s better or worse. 🙂
Here’s his brother. He’s handsome too, isn’t he?

“Named by Committee”. I love it!
When Bayou and I were trying to find our Shiba’s name, I spent HOURS poring over the ‘net looking for female Japanese names. (We had decided early on that we wanted a Japanese or at least Asian name).
I came up with a list of 5 or 6, and the one that jumped out at Bayou was “Sumi”. It Japanese it means “clear” or “elegant”. Immediately, I didn’t like it.
I wanted Inari, which is the name of a Japanese goddess known for her affiliation with the Shibas.
Better luck next time, eh? 🙂
I have to say Sumi’s name grew on me immensely, and as she’s aged I’ve come to feel it was right. Because this dog is VERY clear about what she wants! 🙂
Snickers is a gorgeous Shiba, btw. And his brother- also handsome!

Oh yeah, I forgot- we recently decided on Sumi’s registered name:
“Kawamaisou’s Kitsune Tsuki”. Kawamaisou is her originating kennel, and “kitsune tsuki” means “fox lunacy”.

Fox Lunacy! That’s a WONDERFUL name.
And I have to say, I have yet to meet a Shiba that isn’t clear about what they want!
